When you join the Battle Creek Family YMCA, we want you to feel comfortable with the fitness equipment and enjoy your workouts.  
Members - New or getting back into working out?   Our Wellness Coaches are trained to provide basic instruction on fitness equipment and to assist you in the beginning of your fitness program.

To help you start out right, sign up for a  FREE Equipment Orientation in the HEC Fitness Center and/or the Wellness Fitness Center.

Aerobic Classes are FREE with your membership!
We have over 80 ongoing classes per week, for all levels of fitness including yoga, pilates, kickboxing, circuit, Y-pump, spinning and zumba!

Health Enhancement Center
In the HEC you will find nautilus, hammer strength and Icarian Cardiovascular equipment, weight machines, close to 100 stations, with free weights and 2 fitness studios in this area. Over 18,000 square feet of exercise space!  We also have Broadcast Vision available for you to enjoy while working out.
Please note: You must be at least 13 years old to use this area.
Family workout hours:  Saturdays and Sundays 11am-1pm.  10-12 year olds, parents must supervise children.

Wellness Center
This area is a smaller atmosphere and features Cybex Equipment, including the Total Body Arc Trainers.  Personal TV's are on the individual cardiovascular equipment.  Please note: You must be at least 18 years old to use this area.

Small Group Personal Training: Want some extra movtivation?  Try Group Personal Training!

Personal Trainers:  Whether you require assistance with exercise for athletic enhancement, weight loss, rehabilitive purposes or just for the extra motivation and challenge, put the expertise and motivation of a Certified Personal Trainer to work for you! :

  • Step - A great challenging class using the aerobic step. 45 minute class.
  • Begin to Step - A Step/cardio class for the beginner or the person who likes their moves kept simple. 45 minute class.
  • Spinning - A group fitness class using special stationary bikes. A great workout! Setup required - arrive early. We strongly encourage you to bring a water bottle to Spinning! 45 minute class.
  • Hi/Lo - Traditional floor aerobics with varying impact and intensity.
  • Y-PUMP - Pump Up Muscle Performance in this strength class guaranteed to challenge all your major muscles. Resistance training group fitness class. Plate loaded barbells are used to strengthen and tone the entire body. Setup required - arrive early. 45 minute class.
  • Butt & Gutt - A class designed to target those "problem areas". This toning class will strengthen and tone the abdomen, buttocks, and thighs. 45 minute class
  • Zumba - A "feel happy" workout that is great for both the body and the mind. Latin and International music.
  • Circuit Training - Enjoy both cardiovascular training and strength training in this fast paced super circuit workout. Meets on the fitness floor. 45 minute class.
  • Pilates/Core Work - This class will strengthen and stretch the muscles in your "core" especially the abdomen and the back using movements that are small and controlled. Excellent class for strengthening and toning the abs, hips, thighs, and buttocks while increasing flexibility, balance, and coordination. 30-45 minute class.
  • Kickbox Circuit - An all over body workout using a variety of equipment including the medicine ball, and the bag.
  • Yoga - Improve flexibility, strength, grace, and your peace of mind in our Yoga class. Each of our instructors brings their own education, experience, and energy to their classes. This class will leave you feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and healthy. We encourage you to try them all! 45 minutes to 1 hour class.

All fitness classes are free to members and are instructed by trained Fitness Leaders. We would like to remind participants that a warm up and a cool down are essential components to any workout. We recommend you attend the entire class. If you are trying one of our classes for the first time, please arrive 5 minutes early so the instructor may explain the basic components of the class. Athletic shoes are required to participate in the fitness classes. All equipment necessary for classes is provided. Chewing gum is not permitted in fitness classes or in the HEC. Class participants must be at least 13 years old.


Family workout hours on Saturdays and Sundays.  10-12 year olds, under supervision of a parent  only.  Parents must check in with the HEC staff person on duty at the time of entry. All must be members or bu y a family day pass and be able to show their membership card to the YMCA staff.

Free Equipment Orientation

When you join the Family YMCA , we want you to feel comfortable with the fitness equipment and enjoy your workouts!  The YMCA Wellness coach is trained to provide basic instruction on fitness equipment and to assist members in beginning their fitness program.

Free Equipment Orientation is available in the Health Enhancement Center and/or the Wellness Center.

In the HEC the equipment orientation covers our Nautilus Weight Equipment, Cardiovascular Stations, Hammer Strength machines, and our Icarian Pin Select & Free Weights. 

In the Wellness Center, it covers all the Cybex Equipment and Caridovascular Stations.

Health Screening

In conjunction with Regional Medical Lab, the YMCA offers a complete health screening analysis at a reduced rate with
results (completely confi dential) mailed to the participant. Tests include Chemistry Health Screening 19 tests; lipid panel, partial blood count, urinalysis and PSA, TSH, and Homocysteine.  Fee: Charged, according to testing selected.

Massage Therapists

Spa visit by appointment only. 
Massage therapists are certified and insured.

Personal Training

Whether you require assistance with exercise for athletic enhancement, weight loss, rehabilitative purposes or just for the extra motivation and challenge, Certified Personal Trainers are available.  Put the expertise and motivation of a personal trainer to work for you.  (Fees are $40 - 50 per hour) For more information, or for help on getting the right trainer for you call Julie Santure, 269-963-9622, Ext. 130

SGPT (Small Group Personal Training)

Learn the right way to lift weights in a small group atmosphere and watch your body shape change in this 10 week program.  A fitness specialist helps you to reach your personal goals.  Workout will include both cardiovascular & strength/conditioning. Class size is limited to 6 and will be held in the Health Enhancement Center (HEC).
6 one hour sessions.  Register for a beginner or an intermediate program. Members Only.

Silver Stars : Therapeutic / Beginner Class

Workout designed for seniors, using chairs, bands and balls. Held in the HEC.

Wellness Series

Each month the Family YMCA  will incorporate a specific health and wellness topic into member services and programs.  During the month watch for:  Member appreciation days, Special Events, Educational promotions, and Special children's activities.
